Why are survivors good at hiding the effects of triggers

I think it's innate in terms of Survival of the Fittest.

If we 'show' we are weak, the enemy/predator will get us.

What do you think? This is only my thinking.

Re: Running

@tyme

My head isn't making much sense of things at the moment, still trying to settle. A friend said she expected me to appear a lot more shaken when I said that I'd likely still be quite triggered when I got to her place today

Re: Running

Hi @avant-garde how's you?

Mind if I chime in?

How did it feel for you to be told that?

For me I would picture myself feeling a little like 'oh so I owe you your expectation of triggered' but I guess it depends on the vibes of the convo

Re: Running

@Jynx

I don't mind you chiming in

I don't know how I feel about her comment

I only just got home 20 minutes ago and need to process the actual trigger from this morning before I can really focus on anything else

Re: Running

@avant-garde mmm wise, I'm the same. One trauma at a time please! Thanks!

Sigh... Big day for you then hun, of managing all the big feels? (Or is that just every day for us? 😅)

Re: Running

@Jynx

I wish it wasn't everyday but sadly that's the reality

*curls up in the corner shaking and crying violently*

Re: Running

We had a new lady join us at our community group today and boy does she have an interesting background!

TW: inappropriate professional behaviour, exploitation

Content/trigger warning
She shared about the standards of care around the intellectually challenged and the mentally ill... everything they had to go through to try and "fix" them... how they weren't trusted to do daily grooming tasks... that the nurses had to do it...
Then how the mentally ill were subjected to electro-convulsive therapy, that it was the go to method... my mum was subjected to that...
it was the descriptions of the showering that threw me... it was far too similar to when I was chosen by people to service...

Re: Running

@avant-garde oh wow, that is INTENSE. And was everyone else going along with it? Ugh

*scoops you into squishy hug*

Re: Running

@Jynx I think you missed another notification... I tagged you earlier...

I get more nervous now that you'll miss notifications and that upsets me.
