Re: Not Coping

Yeah, I know. Therapy is a commitment. Of course I'm not saying your should do MBT because it wouldn't be available to you anyway. I'm just sharing that I had blocks too, but talking therapy made a difference.

Also, applying ACT is about actively practicing the skills of defusion as opposed to fusion which is what you are experiencing.

Re: Not Coping

What's defusion @tyme?

Re: Not Coping

I think i've going through defusion with you a few times. It's an ACT skill where you separate you from your feelings @Birdofparadise8

Re: Not Coping

Oh wait, is that the thing where we talked about shapes and stuff @tyme

Re: Not Coping

Yes. That's one way of defusing... that's the point of it @Birdofparadise8

Re: Not Coping

Oh, I didn't like that @tyme

How else can you do it?

Re: Not Coping

Heaps of ways:

Colour game: focusing on colours that you see

Sound: focusing on sounds

Breath: focusing on your breath

You can make up your own ways

Re: Not Coping

I have aphantiasia. I can't see anything when I shut my eyes.

I already focus on my breathing when I do meditation.

Is this to do in-the-moment types of things when distressed?

I wanted to talk more about how to get rid of this block. I'm normally calm in session. I might be sad sometimes, but most of the time, I don't feel anything. @tyme

Re: Not Coping

ACT is more than just that. It uses a lot of metaphors too. I really related to the many elements of ACT so it worked for me.

Have a read of The Happiness Trap. That's is based on ACT. @Birdofparadise8

Re: Not Coping

I've heard of it. I'll have a look into it.

I mentioned ACT to my psych, but we didn't get any further with it. I think his main focus was my increase in suicidal thoughts and this block. @tyme
