Craft Corner

Re: Craft Corner

@Bunniekins
Loving ur outfit! X

Re: Craft Corner

Hi everyone.

@Former-Member I pinned both of those that you shared which made me smile to see you found them too 🙂 They're very cool. I worked on mega dragon yesterday. He/she now has three legs and feet and some head fins (I became bored with leg making and went to head decorating instead). I'm frustrated with my yarn choice as it's variegated in a really uneven way and I'm being fussy trying to match the colour changes for symmetry which is not working out well for me. I also want to find a contrast colour for fancy bits but nothing is striking me as right. Grrrr. But at least I'm chipping away at finishing another unfinished one.

I'm sorry to hear you're in that yucky recovery place. 15 minutes at a time would be hard. I can imagine how nice smelling the house was with banana cakes in the oven. Crafting with food sounds great. Your bottle storage idea is really clever. Thanks for putting the pics back up so I could see 🙂

Sending you some crafty flower power feel better soon wishes (how fab is quilling?).

Hey @CheerBear

how are you? sorry haven't responded to your message sooner, things have been hectic with mum and ive just been so exhausted.

yes, the chocolate bouquet was yummy - can use any chocolates, and can use other small gifts. it is really fun making them! but i have to be careful not to eat too much when im making them hehe

not had a chance to grout it yet unfortunately. have started another candle holder though - a smaller one but will definitely post pics once they are grouted.

what type of crafts do you enjoy doing?

Re: Craft Corner

Hello there @Bunniekins So sorry you're feeling like that. I understand having been feeling less than motivated myself recently. Really tired, nauseous and rundown.

I really just wanted to make sure you knew this was a good time to look at specials for the sewing machines. Thanks about the avatar too ... I need to find a suitable sunshower, but havent' been able to yet.

So pleased to hear your mum is praising your knitting too, that's lovely to hear! So glad the knitting is going so well for you, using yarn and your hands/ tools to make something is so rewarding. OOOh, and your yarns arrived in good time then. Heart

Zoe7 surely does some extraordinary image work! Lucky you for having your very own image designer - how cool is that! Heart

@CheerBear it's Monday ... any signs of postage pressies yet? I'll bet you're a bit like the unicorn footed kiddies hopping from one foot to the other at the door each time you hear a van travelling by. Smiley EmbarassedRobot LOL I know I always am!

Oh, my the mega dragon sounds like it is developing well, and I'm with you on the 'sometimes I need a change of pace by doing a different part' thing too.

Uneven variegation can be a tricksy thing to work with in pairs, that's for sure! Would a contrasting colour to highlight rather than match one of the most attractive colours in your yarn work maybe? A colour that is not exactly  in the yarn you are using, but would highlight? Like if there's a pale lavender in the yarn, and you'd like that to be more prominent, then using a darker or brighter lavender to even purple might bring that otherwise almost hidden colour to the fore?

Finishing unfinished things is very good progress.

Thank you for your kind words and the lovely quilling image too. Quilling is amazing! I knew a lady who did quilling years ago, she made the most divine greeting cards. I'd have love do to learn it, but with a house full of little ones, not all mine, it was impossible for me to do, but ohmy, I can admire it!

i know there was something else I wanted to say, but can't remember now ....

Crafting goodness to everyone ...

@Bella1978 Thanks Bella1978 🙂

Re: Craft Corner

Hi everyone ☺

@Bella1978 sorry to hear you were feeling exhausted the other day. I hope that's eased a little now. I'm looking forward to seeing your finished projects if/when you share.

The other day you asked what craft I enjoy. I love craft anything and have played with lots of different types of crafty stuff before, but I mostly crochet. I make lots of things from little stuffed toys to big blanket/rugs. I'm waiting on some yarn to start another long project so I'm in a bit of a funk while that's crossing the ocean. It means I've been playing with smaller things like socks/slippers which has been fun.

This is my latest creation finished yesterday. I'm excited to share it here as the inspiration came from some beautiful dreamcatchers (thanks @OhanaSystem and @outlander). The daylight photo is more true to the colours.

I was given some rainbow cotton on the weekend, and after pinning crochet dreamcatchers, I thought I'd give it a go myself. It's been given to a dragon slipper wanting smaller person, which gets me out of making them (not so sad about that really). I didn't have any feathers so I made the tassels to put on it just so it was finished. I can always add/remove/change it another time if I feel like it ☺

Hope everyone is well enough

Re: Craft Corner

Hi @Former-Member. Dropping off a craft story (novel) if you feel up to reading some time, with no pressure to or to reply.

My reward for surviving school holidays was to go to spotlight, so yesterday (with the kids because we were a day early) off I went. I convinced them to go with the promise of slime activator if they did, so all day I had slime scientists doing all kinds of things with glue. I practiced big breathing to "hey mum, you know that thing you really liked - we accidentally covered it in glue and glitter", "is slime toxic to cats?" and "can we put glue sticks in the microwave?" 😮😆

Aside from slime activator, I was looking for a metal ring for the dreamcatcher I made above and some cotton thread in black to have a go at one for myself. I entered the world of mercerised thread and remembered some of the tips you shared a while ago. It's totally different to yarn as you know, so it was really helpful to have some kind of idea of what I was looking at. I was after size 8 or 10 (I think - I actually have no idea) and found some beautiful Milford thread. I then found a 5 pack on clearance for less than what it would cost for one ball, so I picked it up. Unfortunately I didn't look at the size in the pack and when I arrived home I realised it was size 20 which is an enormous jump from my usual 8 ply yarn. I didn't think I'd be able to work with something so thin but I tried anyway, with a 1.8mm hook which is as small as I have used properly before, and ta-da!

It turns out I can ☺ It's wonky and so fiddly (a tr tr with that size thread and hook - not so easy!) and it will take some getting used to. I also probably need to drop the size of the hook even more, but it will definitely do for now and it's great practice. I think it will stretch out nicely once it's finished and mounted in a ring. So much feeling a next level appreciation for the intricate work you do!

I'm teetering on being obsessive with mega dragon colours as I have a couple of different options. I might put some pics of him/her up when I stitch together the body and legs and see if you or anyone have any suggestions or opinions. It's cool but really hard to make and I don't think I'll be doing another one anytime soon.

Re the yarn order you're very right - I am definitely a jumpy dancing prancer when I hear vans! I emailed the company as I was worried about having made a purchase with them, and they replied quickly, letting me know it was dispatched and should arrive soon, so fingers crossed (and bye bye dreamcatchers when that happens!).

Thinking of you, hoping you're recovering ok and doing as well as you can be doing ❤

Re: Craft Corner

wow @CheerBear they are beautiful

Re: Craft Corner

Thanks @outlander

Re: Craft Corner

Great looking dream catcher @CheerBear.  I've used jute to bind the hoops and have purple wool and rainbow thread to do the web with.  Plus small pieces of turquoise to work into the web (dew drops that catch the light and burn up the negative energy/dreams before they can reach us). And a collection of feathers to hang off the hoops.  All seems like it'll come together eventually but I started it about 6 months ago!

Is the pattern you crochet the web from available on YouTube @CheerBear
