Christian Chat

Re: Christian Chat

Yes @avant-garde ! This is the one I was referring to!

@ENKELI - Love it. Standing in a carport doesn't make you a car lol. So true.

Re: Christian Chat

Oh that was fun!

I walked into one of my regular cafes with a super friendly barista and I noticed the nutcracker on the counter

I said how thankful I was that there wasn't a Santa (before then noticing one) and said how I hate Santa.

I was not shy about my beliefs when she said that Christmas is all about Santa and I responded saying "no it's all about Jesus", then we went back and forth a bit and she said Santa is all about giving and I replied that so is Jesus and that Santa died 1600 years ago.

Then I challenged her in saying that any person could wear a Santa suit with not nice intentions and you probably wouldn't hear about it...

Re: Christian Chat

I'm enjoying a daily reflection from a Christian outreach group. It's made me realise there are big gaps in my knowledge of scripture.

I'm not sure how to join a church community. I'm going to be housebound for a while so I'll have plenty of time to consider it.

@tyme

...

I've been a bit apprehensive posting in the "directly Christian" threads... but here goes...

About 5 years ago I was starting with a new therapist, first session her homework for me was to watch "The Chosen"...

I was wondering if anyone else has engaged with the show and what they think of it...

Re: Christian Chat

@Dimity

Before I decided on a new church I had a bit of a process...

I first checked out the churches website to find their beliefs and values, whether they were conservative or Pentecostal, where did I best align.

Then I listened to some of the sermons online

Last I reached out to someone I could talk to and ask questions that went to the church, also to make it less daunting going for the first time...

Re: Christian Chat

I've never watched The Chosen @avant-garde . I'll have a look a bit later and read up on it.

As for finding a church, I never tried really hard. I was invited as a 7 year old to a youth convention, and from there, I've never left. They are like family. I've grown up there, and I'd never go anywhere else. Yes, crap things happen, but I believe God knows why and has allowed it. I just need to stand by faith.

Re: Christian Chat

Thanks @avant-garde there's a church I might try.  Its new assistant pastor reached out on a local FB group a few times and I've looked at some of his sermons on YT. It's a church whose values I respect although it will be new to me.

Re: Christian Chat

Hey @avant-garde , after you mentioned the Chosen, I watched 30 mins of episode one, and I've got NO idea what it's about.

There was a Rabbi in it and a "demon-possessed" female? I couldn't make head and tail of what was going on, even though I had closed captions on too.

Yet I read reviews and it's got really good reviews. I might have another go later.

Just for context, I'm not good at watching things. I can't seem to take this information in and that's why I don't own a television at home. I'm more a reader.

But yes, I'll have another go, and I'll let you know how I go with it. Unless, do you know an episode that's easier to grasp?

Huh @avant-garde ? The Chosen, books? So did the books or the episodes come first?

Have you read the books?
