Re: Support for Flowerlove22

Hello @Sunnyside226! How are you feeling today?

Yes, meditation! I feel like I need to implement it into my daily routine. We should definitely do some together.

And yes! I actually have my yoga teacher training certificate haha

You definitely sound like a coach instructor, I love it!! Movement definitely helps, hey?

These are great questions. So many things can influence the experience of BPD and Bipolar symptoms.

Here is some information from our website that you may find helpful:

BPD’s causes are not fully understood, but are likely to be a combination of genetics and life experiences3. It is common for people living with BPD to have a history of traumatic experiences, such as childhood neglect or abuse. In fact, there is an overlap between BPD and complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (Complex PTSD). Some advocates and clinicians argue that BPD should be renamed to complex PTSD. There is no doubt that many people experience both.  Experts argue that the symptoms of BPD develop as a way of coping with the impacts of trauma. After a trauma, some people have strong negative emotions and difficulty trusting others. It may be that for people with BPD, impulsive behaviours or self-harm develops in order to cope with these difficult experiences and intense emotions.

Bipolar and related disorders are characterised by periods of mania (extreme ‘highs’) and periods of depression (extreme ‘lows’). The causes of bipolar disorder are not fully understood. There seems to be a genetic link, meaning it can run in families. There are also neurological, biological, and environmental factors that contribute to the likelihood of developing bipolar disorder1.  It is quite a diverse condition. Some people may only experience one episode of mania, but others experience more rapid cycles. Many people experience periods of normal mood in between episodes. Some people’s lives are affected significantly, but others experience only minor challenges.

There are three related presentations that share similar features2:

  1. Bipolar I disorder: which involves at least one episode of mania.
  2. Bipolar II disorder: involving at least one episode of hypomania.
  3. Cyclothymic disorder: involving chronic, fluctuating mood changes, including hypomanic symptoms (but not a full period of hypomania).

I hope this helps. 💛
