anxiety

Hello I am not coping with anxiety at the moment. I have been diagnosed with delusional/ schizophrenia since 2008 . Since Jan this year i stopped seeing my psychiatrist. I was sick and tired of being with

mental health services which in my case exacerbated my illness. I have been coping alright without

medication until recently. i have tried to go out and mingle more but i have found that it is causing me

extreme anxiety. I am divorced with 3 adult chilren and live with my dog and stay at home most days even
though i find this extremely boring and unfulfilling so that is why im trying to get out more. I guess im

upset because last week i tried to go to a yoga class and i just could not handle going there by    myself

and im trying to be "normal" but its just not working. I get anxious just leaving the house to take my dog

for a walk. I never used to be like this. When my grown children were younger i didnt have a problem

and could do anything. Now i just stay at home which is making me ill.

Re: anxiety

Hello @snickers, welcome to the Forums.  It must have taken some courage to write this first post so thank you for sharing your story with us.  We certainly have members who struggle to leave the house due to anxiety.  @Jacques is one who might be able to say hi at some point.  Your situation also make me think of @Mazarita who managed build on her connections here in the forums to increase her confidence in the 'real' world.

I wonder if you hang around here for a bit, perhaps in some of the more social areas like the beer garden here and night shift thread here, and get to know some people, if it will make it easier for you next time you try yoga?  It might be worth a shot.  Our members are very friendly so please just jump in and say hello.

We're glad you found us here Smiley Happy

Re: anxiety

Hi @snickers, just wanted to say hi.
I too am getting more anxiety as I get older/since getting ill. And I totally get being tired of mental health services.
Do you have someone, a family member that would go to yoga with you? Or take you out for a walk? I know down in Canberra they had peer led mental health groups where people with MI's met up with others to go for a walk.

Re: anxiety

Hi there @snickers,

Nice to meet you, I don't think I've met you before on the forums!

How did things go with the doctor were you able to get some medication or other help to deal with your anxiety?

Hope you are feeling less worried and taking care of yourself 🙂

Re: anxiety

Hi Lunar , so nice of you to reply. Yes, i did go to doctors yesterday, just broke down. I think I have kept

too much to myself and what topped me off yesterday was my son. He called me brain dead and that really hurt. I see my family regularly but they are not really understanding of my mental illness.  I dont like way i am treated by my family. I do have one close friend but i rarely them because they have an illness themselves and are kind of abusive. My doctor gave me an anti depressants and anti anxiety

drugs and im just waiting for them to work. After reading Suzannes post the other day suggesting

online anxiety progmamms, I signed up and am waiting  to enrol in a class. I still will try to go to yoga and push myself to get out more, because even though im anxious, half of me feels better for making the

effort. Even coming on here and posting about my life is difficult for me.

Re: anxiety

Nice to hear from you @snickers!

That is such great news that you have enrolled in an Online Anxiety Programme as well as going to yoga classes and continuing to post on here, well done 🙂

It does sound like you were bottling up too much after having a breakdown at the doctors, did you feel better after letting that all out and getting some medication? Are you linked in with a counsellor or psychologist to talk about your anxiety as you mentioned your friend is unwell and your family doesn't understand?

You should feel really proud of yourself for having the courage to do all you do and come on here to share what you are experiencing, I don't think most people are able to do that! Hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy the weekend,

lunar
