Meaning

Hello! New member here.

I have BPD, and randomly I have an overwhelming feeling of life being pointless. How do I manage this? I have a purpose in life and meaning but I still find I just sometimes think well really what's the point?! Is this psychotic lol

Hello @AlfredandJenny

Welcome to the forums. We are so glad to see you have stopped by and want to acknowledge just how much courage it takes to reach out and ask for support. 🥰

It's wonderful to hear that you have purpose and meaning in life - I would love to know more about what that looks like for you?

I can empathise with just how overwhelming the feeling of life being pointless can be...it's very human to wonder what the point is at times, so please be gentle with yourself as you're navigating these more complex emotions.

As for managing these feelings... I wonder what would happen if you connected to the people, places, or things that bring you a sense of purpose and meaning when you are overwhelmed? I have found that when I feel this way, connecting to myself or others (particularly through my passions) really helps.

Please let me know your thoughts on this, and happy to brainstorm some other ideas with you too. In the meantime, I want to assure you that you are not alone. I get the sense this will be a wonderful space for you to connect with others who are going through a similar experience. Perhaps you could start with exploring this thread for some more support today: Raising Awareness of BPD - Flipping the Script - Page 87 - SANE Forums😊

Re: Meaning

As someone with BPD, technically in remission and been through a large spectrum of symptoms at varying degrees of potency. You're not psychotic. You're not alone in how you feel.
I don't have a magic fix, although I do have experience in living through these waves of complete willingness in life and an utter pointlessness in continuing. I see them now as waves, waves to ride, waves that crash and disburse back into ocean of life.
Connection, sharing, therapy and patience are what I fall on to make it though.
There is great modern information out there now about BPD, living with and caring for yourself.
You've done well posting here, remember to give yourself credit where it's due.
