My own expression, which I often use now, of various similar versions appropriate for purpose and application,

"When things are down and we feel like we are in a pit, we can look upward with positive anticipation; when we are on the crest of the wave and things are good, enjoy the experience and try to avoid looking down with fear."

Who knows where the wave might take us?
