Re: A place to Share self care strategies
Hey @Fluttershy1 thanks for the tag
Sometimes it depends on what I am needing to address - am I underslept? Dehydrated? Sensory overwhelm?
But also I like to do things like go for a bush walk and try to spot the most interesting bit of nature I can find, or put on my favourite tunes and dance as hard as I can or sing as loud as I can, or I'll find some writing prompts and do a little smidge of creative wiriting. Anything that is nourishing to the soul, really

Re: A place to Share self care strategies
Hello, great thread!
There was another thread on this topic ages ago. I'd link it here but I don't know how to search the forum from my mobile phone.
Anyway, there are some really inspiring ideas on this thread already. For me, my list:
Grounding exercises
Meditation
Cold water
Hot drink, probably tea over coffee if I am going through a rough patch
Shower
Reading self care/self help material
Watching videos from ppl about recovery
Seeing my support network eg dr, psych etc
Talking to ppl I trust
Going for a walk
Other things I do have been mentioned already like listening to music and art.

Re: A place to Share self care strategies
Lots of activities there @Fluttershy1 to balance the quiet times. I'm still thinking about my list but it will include music and aromatherapy. I used to enjoy gardening... "to plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow"...

Re: A place to Share self care strategies
@Fluttershy1 some of mine include ✨
- getting out into nature, and going for a bush walk when I can
- relatedly: photography!
- listening to some of my favourite music, which might include watching live performances on youtube
- if I haven't seen anyone in a few days- making sure I meet up with someone
- watching (or rewatching) something I like on netflix
- opening up to others for support when I need it
- taking time out and rescheduling commitments if I'm overwhelmed so I can just focus on looking after myself
- lighting a scented candle and making my physical environment more comfortable
- going for a swim in an ocean, lake, river, etc
😊🌻

Re: A place to Share self care strategies
For me I like to:
Listen to traditional South African music.
Take a long warm muscle-relaxing bubble bath.
Burn frankensense and myrrth and meditate.
On a cold winters day or a stormy night, I will lay down and listen to black metal albums.
Spend extra time outside tending to my garden beds than normal.
Go for a walk along the bay with my iPod on shuffle.
