Re: Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope )

@Shaz51 you are so welcome hun!! The other two 'pillars' from that blog are also very good, I always share them because of the fact that they take a very non-pathologising stance! Here -

First Pillar - Interest-based Nervous System

Second Pillar - Emotional Hyperarousal

Re: Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope )

Hi @Jynx
I've done a little tidying. Letting go. But I've more to do.
I'm not a hoarder, but I don't like sending materials to landfill so I try to recycle those odd things, but I also give my mental health a break, not be perfect, and allow myself to use the landfill bin.

I've tidied up some papers for tax and things I want to keep. Into folders in the cupboard so they are accessible but out of sight. Also tossed out a lot of papers I don't need any more.

I've got a few other things ready to recycle, but I'm a bit stuck. I think I will let some go tomorrow.

I heard an audio book my Marie Kondo about letting things go and not bringing things into your home if they don't give you joy. She recommends taking 6 months to go through the process. Somethings are easier to let go of than others, so she says start with the easy things like papers. I can't remember the order of things to sift through. But it emotionally it helps to start with the easy things.
And tidying a neglected area clears my head and gives me a bit of a boost.

Definitely still working on it and I'm not expecting perfection, but it does help to remove some clutter.

Re: Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope )

Don't know why, but as soon as I read you post, I remembered I haven't done my tax return from last year!!! ARGHHHH @Zol

Thanks for the reminder!

Re: Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope )

I used to do my returns late. I even had several years at once. But if feels do good once it's done. So I make a point of doing them before October or not long after.

I'd do them on 1 July but who has all their info then? I have used tax agents but the online government system is ok, (the jargon is a little confusing when it's only once a year I do it). i like that the system pre-fills most of my info, so its mainly deductions I need to put in, if I have them.

Re: Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope )

Oh @Zol yes yes yes!! We seem to be on a similar journey in this particular aspect of our lives at the moment, how delightful 😊 Love Marie Kondo!! Yes I am taking my time with mine too, as soon as I put time pressure on it feels less like a cleansing and more like a panic, and for some reason suddenly the process isn't about me anymore, it's about making it 'look nice' - which is a bit how I'm feeling right now cos I got a house inspection coming up 😪

I have been very much enjoying what I've been calling 'pilfering' though 😂

Instead of immediately donating or throwing away things I don't want, I try to see if I can recycle them first!! For example I had these stuffed toys that I didn't really like much anymore (those Fuggly ones from Kmart lol) - and I also happened to have a pillow that was a bit lacklustre in its plumpness! So I ripped open the toys, then stuffed their innards into the pillow and stitched it back up!! It's much nicer to lean on now, and I also have these little eyes and bits leftover from the fuggles that I can use for another craft project!! The teeth I think I wanna sew into one of the fake pockets I was cursed with on one of my fav punk jackets. Hehehe 😋

It's been really fun seeing what I can come up with 😁 What's next after the papers for you, you reckon? Hmm what's felt easy for me.... oh like going through all the pantry/kitchen and bathroom cupboards has been pretty smooth and easy, cos mostly it's either just items or products that are off or old or no longer in use, and not really any sentimental stuff either!!

Re: Coping Toolbox ( what is in yours to help you cope )

That's all very adventurous and awesome.

I'm not so creative in the hands on sense, but I give it a go and fully support it.

My dad owns my unit and after some communal landscaping conflicts, i ripped out the grass in my backyard and put some pavers down.

Now it put some natives or vegies when I can.

Keep it up.

Humans are creative beings.

It's what our brains do.
