Healthscope hospitals

Healthscope hospitals

Watching with concern as Healthscope is hovering on the brink of receivership.

They operate 12 psychiatric hospitals and many more private hospitals offering mental health services.

Government intervention may be needed.

I haven't heard of this one yet. I'll keep my eyes open @Dimity

Re: Healthscope hospitals

Yes @Dimity Healthscope has been a worry for a while. They have been trying to renegotiate private health insurance coverage with the big health insurers for a while.

The whole system is a bit of a mess public and private

Re: Healthscope hospitals

@tyme @Till23 according to today's AFR headlines

"Westpac and Commonwealth Bank have agreed to keep Healthscope’s 37 private hospitals operating even as lenders call in receivers to take control of the company."

Re: Healthscope hospitals

Hi @Dimity how are you? It will be interesting to see how long the banks will support Healthscope. Everyone seems to be interested in the bottom dollar these days

The government isn't prepared to bail out the overseas investors who'd hoped to profit from Australian healthcare.

Maybe healthcare should be in public hands... but even public hospitals don't always  live up to their duty of care eg indigenous health and reproductive healthcare.

this is sad but doesn’t surprise me.

outrageous really . How can they gut businesses

I did old school public service, and saw some of the errors of too big a government, but the current systems do not appear better. The corruption of some medical management is causing institutions to lose sight of the main goal.., the reason these organisations exist…,HEALTHCARE. Profit should be secondary to a flourishing business. Even an old lefty like me understands that.
