psychotherapy

Hi, I'm so overwhelmed today. I saw my psychiatrist and we just talked about work and Greg's illness. It is good that I have times of just conversation but I feel like I wasted the session. I just feel so bad , negative behaviour is taking over.

Re: psychotherapy

Hi @Angels333

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling overwhelmed. When is your next appointment?

Please don't be hard on yourself.

Some advice I've recieved before, which I use for all appointments, meetings etc, is to write down talking points before hand. These can be as detailed or as brief as you want, but the key is to give the points to the Dr/psychologist/psychiatrist at the start of the appointment. That way they have an idea of where you want things to go and the pressure is off you.

I'm not sure if that is helpful for your sitution - it's just something that I have found useful in the past.

We are here if you want to chat to us tonight and of course there are places like Lifeline (13 11 14 or Chat)   where you can talk to someone now.

Take care

Re: psychotherapy

I'm sure I'll be chatting to lifeline before bed. Which will be soon.

My next appointment is next week on Thursday. My psychiatrist took over the psychotherapy from my psychologist (who made me feel guilty for taking meds - he said to me 'it's your body' made me feel awful) anyway that's a digression.

I was off kilter all morning rushing around driving sick hubby to work etc that I don't think I was in the frame of mind to slow down and allow myself any psychoanalysis.

Re: psychotherapy

That's a pretty insightful observation, @Angels333

Maybe other members can share how they get into the right mindset before going to these appointment...

Have you got any strategies to get yourself in the right mindframe up your sleeve already?

Re: psychotherapy

I think I like some alone time with the right music. I put headphones on and just allowy thoughts to sort out.

The difference today was driving Greg to work -no music on the car and having a big conversation about work etc, I was then so angry because I wasted a therapy session.
