Misdiagnosis?

Hi, I'm wondering if you can have a misdiagnosis that has lasted for the past 7 years? I've been heavily medicated on my script and recently with advice from my psychiatrist I've reduced my meds by a third. Unknown to my psychiatrist though is that for the past week I've reduced it to 1/5 of my original dose as I enjoy being more alert and awake throughout the day. It's for schyzoaffective disorder.  I'm still taking my antidepressants as per normal. Any ideas about this as I've had nothing but positive results.

Re: Misdiagnosis?

Ok thanks @Alacarte um sounds good yet scary if true re misdiagnosis I saw you were talking with @greenpea ? Were they any help?
Sorry I don't have any answers
I was depressed for years stopped taking meds due to side effects have to push own barrow here. Not always successfully.

Re: Misdiagnosis?

@TAB @Alacarte Hey TABs and long time no see Alacarte (good to see you:)). We should bring in @Eden1919  into the convo as she has schizoaffective disorder and is medication free.  I am going to try and go med free in the new year as I hate them so much but will go about it the way Eden1919 did (I will let her explain).

As for receiving the wrong diagnosis for 7 years yeah I can believe it.

Re: Misdiagnosis?

@TAB @greenpea  Thanks for the replies. About the only thing I agree with is that I had MDD. Major depressive disorder. Maybe that has cleared too. It could have been the booze that did it to me. I was a 24/7 drinker in my past. Sober for a few years now. Just worried that symptoms will pop up again but it's really been an eye opener so far.

Re: Misdiagnosis?

@Alacarte @TAB   I think the trick is to be aware and have insight into what is happening with yourself. When I go off my meds I dont have insight  which is the only thing that has me worried about going off medication. Will I be able to know and do someting about myself if things are going haywire? I just don't know.

Do You think you will be able to step in if you start going off the rails?

Re: Misdiagnosis?

...GP! 😊 @greenpea

Re: Misdiagnosis?

I think I can but I lived in a world of fear before giving up alcohol. I believe now that I have good insight and that I'd recognise the symptoms. @greenpea

Re: Misdiagnosis?

@TAB s right back at you :D!
