Here is the link to my finished Astrobot.  The painting turned into a bit of a fiasco, but i'm still very new at it and learning.  Today's lessons:  1) Have a decent brush. 2) Prep is important.  3) Masking such a small curvy figure is a major pain.

Re: Life and trauma

@rav3n first time yes, second time was a bit complicated as I was in an abusive relationship and really copped it during the holiday. But Queensland is beautiful although I don't know how people handle the humidity constantly.

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 you did amazing considering what you worked with. I love it, you are so creative 🙂.

Re: Life and trauma

oh wow!!! that's really cool, how long did it take to 3D print!? @MJG017 the tip about using proper paint brush is definitely a big one, made a major difference... i used to get the cheapest (and often weak bristled) ones and yikes... it's harder to use!

@Former-Member ahh i see, i barely remember the weather but my friend moved from Melb to Brisbane a few years ago. she's so used to the QLD humidity that she can't handle the melb weather anymore 😅 do you have a favourite weather season?

Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member

I think it would have been much easier if i printed it bigger.  It's only 9cm high so it's quite small, but i just wanted to print it quick as I only had a week until @Oaktree gives us a new task.

My first efforts at painting turned out a lot better, but they were larger models.  The first was a Viper Mark I, the fighter jets from the original Battlestar Galactica TV series.  The second was a Viper Mark II, the version from the 2004 series.  The 3rd was, no if you guessed you'd be wrong, a gnome doing the metal salute!  Yep, you didn't see that coming did you? 😁

I also did a model of the Robot from the original Lost in Space.  I didn't have to paint that as it was printed in pieces and i just used the correct colour filament for each piece.

This is what I do with my time...  and money with all the filament! 🤣

Oh, and Lego.

@rav3n

Yeah, I might as well have tried painting with a spoon! 😁  Lesson learnt, buy good brushes.

It took about 30 mins to print.

Re: Life and trauma

@rav3n the first time I went we stayed in seaworld resort which was nice and we were in the pools with storms overhead until the staff told us that we have to get out. I don't have a favourite season or favourite anything.

Re: Life and trauma

@MJG017 wow you really did make it small 😂. I used to paint these little figures from some weird game that one of my ex partners used to play, I think it was called warhammer. They were so fiddly.

You really have made some pretty awesome things, and the gnome just to top it off 😂

Re: Life and trauma

for some reason i thought 3D printers would take wayyyyy longer to print, but 30 mins sounds pretty good to me! what made you buy a 3D printer/got you interested in 3D printing? @MJG017 haha i wouldn't be surprised if a spoon worked out better!

Re: Life and trauma

@Former-Member ooo seaworld was the one place out of the major themeparks i didn't get to visit!! seaworld resort sounds really nice, sucks about the storms though.

interesting!! are you the type of person that like too many things that they can't pick or the type of person that doesn't like/care enough to have a fav?
