Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library
Hi everyone
I am an Arrernte man living on Wadawurrung country.
If you weren't aware, it is Reconciliation Week.
Let's use this space to share artwork music, stories, information from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander space.
I just want to start off with this song. You might know the classic by Paul Kelly, he is joined in this song by Indigenous artist Ziggy Ramo, one of my favourites.

Great thread @ArraDreaming
Here is Archie with "Took the Children Away".

His voice is more gravelly than usual, but very fitting.
My first friend was an aboriginal girl in an orphanage, but she went to join her people, which I hope was a good thing. My dad also had a lot of indigenous mates with whom he grew up.

Re: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library
Wow Thank you @ArraDreaming ... the sequel! It is much more optimistic.
Sad and thinking about Trevor Nickolls, who passed too young.
The figures in the car are like me foster parents ...lol
Wow first time I can laugh in same breath as saying something like that. Thanks for opportunity.
So much culture to celebrate.

Re: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library
Last year I stumbled upon this gem.
https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/program/robbie-hood
There is an episode of a fella robbing the fridge which had me in total stitches. First time I ever did laugh about it. My dad, 2 brothers and one sister all experienced the tender mercies of the state. But Deadly Humour has a special edge to get around some of that. Mind you it took a while for me to let go of my life saving rage about it all.
Respect
Apple

I've been taking a lot of inspiration from Mitch Tambo. He made the 2019 Australia's Got Talent really special.

Re: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Library
I am actually processing shame and trying to turn it into productive guilt and responsibility.
I misnamed Uluru in the middle of a reconciliation week discussion. No-one called me out but I may well of hurt or at least dissapointed a lot of people. Every now and then the wrong name slips out but it picked a particularly wrong time to do it.
I think, my original mistake is how I patched my own software when the memo came out. I told myself "Ayres Rock is actually Uluru". What I should of done all along is start a brand new folder in my brain and said "Uluru is Uluru (and it was never Ayres Rock)".
