A place to Share self care strategies

Hiya all,

I just thought of this idea on having a space where we can all share our self care activities.

I like to listen to music as self care

Having a shower

Going for walks.

Would love to see what you guys do as self care activities.

@Fluttershy1  Thanks for the tag

Hi everyone

For me I like to be active and I like to listen to music and be in nature and above all else Surfing. But I get a bit bored so I need a goal to focus on or I just slowly stop working out and then I spiral. Right now I have set a goal for a two night hike in September and I have just started to train for it 😊

Re: A place to Share self care strategies

Hi @Fluttershy1

What a great forum discussion thread you've decided to initiate! Well done👍!

For me, I find the following things work well for my self care:

- Knitting

- Crochet

- Writing things down like in a journal

- Listening to music

- Sleeping

- Reading

- Having a warm shower

- Spraying some lavender spray around or at least smelling lavender

- Just closing my eyes and lying on my bed to tune out

- Going on Facebook or the forums

- Visiting the library to relax

- Going for a drive

- Going to the beach and watching the waves

- Listening to rain outside when it's rainy

- Drawing pictures/ Colouring in designs

- Touching something soft like a furry scarf I'm knitting

- Sitting still in a comfy chair and just being in the moment

- Having some creamy chicken soup

- Eating pasta carbonara

- Enjoying a hot cup of tea

- Playing with my cat Mitz

- Finding photos/pictures of nature on the internet and taking photos of the images on my phone

I really like the lists that others have compiled and appreciate that this thread has started as I can see many different ideas coming out of it.

Thanks forumites!

Re: A place to Share self care strategies

I have to point out (and I cannot stress this enough), that self-care doesn't have to be the obvious stuff.

It can include preparing for a class or an exam, because you know that will make your life easier in the future.

It can include reaching out to other people. It can include NOT reaching out to other people or setting boundaries, as a form of self-respect.

It could include crying a whole lot, if you've been holding something in.

To talk about the obvious stuff, though, I enjoy reading, drinking tea at home and coffee outdoors, going for walks, listening to music and watching videos ABOUT coping (to get an outside reminder/perspective).

Re: A place to Share self care strategies

Thanks for tagging me @Fluttershy1 I'm loving the lists,  lots of life's pleasures and little luxuries to rediscover and return to. I think I'm realising a deep need for regular selfcare routines and rituals. It sounds silly but I'll put writing a list on my list of things to do...
