Changes to SANE's Support Line

Re: Changes to SANE's Support Line

Thanks for the reply @RachSANECEO,

Just a couple of follow on questions:

  •  * How long does SANE keep individuals' information for?
  •  * Can you request it to be deleted?
  •  * Is the information shared with any other entities?
  •  * Was the issue of abuse by emergency services discussed?

The reason I ask is that, having worked in an IT role with my state's health department, people's health information isn't kept as secret as it should be. I don't want to be denied a job or something like that in the future because my private mental health information is leaked.

We are planning to begin some codesign around what we can do differently that supports people to build and maintain their own safety - in my view there is a lot that needs improvement across the system in this space.

With all due respect, I don't understand what this can achieved. I can only see this being the classic "making a safety plan" approach, which fundamentally in QLD equates to "call a friend or turn yourself into the police and hope for the best". I've never really seen how this is meant to work.

The problems I've talked about are systemic at a state and federal government level and not really something SANE is responsible for. I don't think SANE can do anything differently (except for the anonymity thing) as they are bound by the rules around Duty Of Care.

Hell, I don't even think Duty of Care is such a bad thing. Its the response you get from emergency services and public health care that's the problem. How can SANE have any influence over that?

Again many thanks.

Re: Changes to SANE's Support Line

great questions @Jlol

on the privacy questions our policy is here https://www.sane.org/privacy

on the design questions - if its ok we might hold that over to a codesign hub, some of the concepts are kinda cool and IP we want to develop with lived experience input (hopefully yours) but not make visible publicly on the forums before we've built it.

I'll make sure when we open up for EOIs to participate in design you get a notification

Re: Changes to SANE's Support Line

Thanks @RachSANECEO

I'm just curious about the question "Was the issue of abuse by emergency services discussed?". Was this brought up?

Also, I don't know what a codesign hub is. Can you let me know?
